The Summer Sangria: A Crisp, Alcohol-Free Refreshment
As the days grow longer and the gardens begin to bloom, our social calendars naturally shift toward the outdoors. Whether it’s a weekend brunch on the patio or a golden hour gathering with friends, there is a distinct beauty in the transition to Spring: a season that calls for drinks that are as bright and revitalizing as the landscape.
To celebrate the season of renewal, we’ve crafted a signature Summer Sangria. Unlike traditional sangrias that can feel heavy or overly sweet, this recipe is designed to be elegant, light, and focused on clarity.
The Foundation: Isabel Non-Alcoholic Chardonnay
The secret to a sophisticated alcohol-free sangria is starting with a base that has true character. Our Chardonnay is crafted from premium California grapes and dealcoholized with care to preserve the texture and balance of a fine wine.
With its signature notes of crisp yellow apple, pear, and citrus peel, it provides a vibrant fruit profile. The subtle warmth of French and American oak - along with a whisper of crème brûlée - adds a creamy, full-bodied finish that ensures this sangria feels like a luxury, not just a juice blend. Plus, at only 20 calories and 1g of sugar per serving, it’s a choice that lets you enjoy the moment without sacrifice.
The Recipe: Summer Sangria
Serves 4–6
Ingredients:
-
1 bottle Isabel By Isabel Mondavi Non-Alcoholic Chardonnay
-
1 cup sparkling botanical water (Elderflower or Cucumber work beautifully)
-
1 organic lemon, thinly sliced
-
1 firm green apple or Bosc pear, thinly sliced (to echo the wine’s tasting notes)
-
A handful of fresh mint leaves
-
Optional: Edible pansies or chamomile flowers for a floral garnish
-
Ice cubes
Instructions:
-
Prep the Fruit: In a large glass pitcher, add your sliced lemon, apple, and pear.
-
Infuse: Pour the chilled bottle of Isabel Chardonnay over the fruit. Let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This allows the wine’s oak and vanilla notes to mingle with the fresh citrus and fruit.
-
The Sparkle: Just before serving, top the pitcher with the sparkling botanical water and a handful of fresh mint. Stir gently.
-
Serve: Pour into chilled wine glasses over fresh ice. Garnish each glass with an extra sprig of mint or an edible flower for that "meadow" aesthetic.
Why It Works
The creaminess of the Chardonnay pairs perfectly with the effervescence of the sparkling water, while the fresh mint cuts through the soft vanilla notes for a finish that is incredibly clean. It’s the ultimate "clear-headed" cocktail - allowing you to stay present for every conversation and wake up feeling just as bright as the Spring sun.
Host’s Tip: Pair this sangria with a goat cheese and honey crostini or a light spring pea risotto to let the Chardonnay’s citrus acidity shine.
